Spotting Wildlife in Banff National Park

Did you know that Canada is celebrating 150 years of Confederation this year? As part of the celebration, Canada is giving free entry into all the National Parks, National Marine Conservation Areas, and National Historic Sites in the country, via the free 2017 Discovery Pass.

I got mine in the mail last week, so decided to go into Banff National Park on the weekend. It's one of my favourite places in the world. I love being surrounded by the beautiful mountains! But I picked a bad day to go. I went right at the start of a big snow dump, so visibility was not great. I couldn't see much of the mountains but for some reason, I spotted more wildlife there that day, than I ever have in a single day at this National Park! I'm not sure if they like the snow or just liked that there were less humans around, but either way I was glad I saw them.

A quick PSA here: these are wild animals so while it is exciting to see them in the National Parks, for your safety and their survival, please don't feed them or get too close to them. More tips on how to best react when you see wildlife in the parks here.

Every visit into the National Parks is different. While I didn't get to see the mountains this time around, I'm so happy I got to see these majestic animals in their natural habitat. I'm looking forward to exploring more of the National Parks in this country this year!
