I can't believe 2016 is coming to an end! I wanted to spend some time to look back on the year. I know on a world scale, 2016 really wasn't great, especially if you care for many of the great talents who passed away this year (I'm still sad about David Bowie, Prince, and Alan Rickman). But for me personally, it was quite a fruitful year. I decided it was the year to take action on some goals I had career-wise, so I wrote (and thankfully passed!) an exam for my designation. I also made connecting with the important people in my life a priority, so I made more of an effort to spend time with them. And finally, as with every year, travel is always a priority for me, and I got to make quite a few trips this year!
My year started off with a very meaningful trip. I went to Hong Kong to visit family and friends, and also got to make a short trip to China to visit places where my late grandfather used to live growing up. I met family I've never met before, and also visited my grandfather's burial site for the first time. I regret not making this trip until after he passed away, but I was able to learn more about him. More than I ever really knew. When he was alive, he was always a bit of a friendly mystery to me. We had a language barrier and so we couldn't really have conversations. I just remember him sitting in his chair watching us, most days with a smile, when we went to visit him. I hope to write about this trip in due time... I want to make sure I do it justice!
I also was able to spend some time exploring Taiwan in February. It was not my first trip there, but I went with an ex-roommate, and we haven't really spent much quality time together for a good 10+ years, so it was a very meaningful trip. We ate a lot, had a lot of fun, and had time to catch up with each other!
Fast forward to July, I spent a weekend in Seattle to attend an old friend's wedding. We had went to secondary school together many years ago, and it was really touching to witness her find her other half! With this trip, I reconnected with many others that I went to school with, as well as met some new friends. It was also the first time I really got to explore Seattle (I had been before, but didn't stay long enough to really experience the city), so it was a really great trip!
In September, I was off to another wedding, this time in Vancouver. And then last month, in November, I was able to hop on some really cheap flights to Italy! We spent two wonderful weeks there, starting off in Venice and making our way down to Rome. It was a fantastic trip and more posts on that to come!
Finally, I wrapped up the year spending a week in Vancouver over the Christmas holidays with family.
All in all, 2016 was a good year for me. I hope 2017 will bring more travels, and I want to put more time and effort towards this blog. For anyone who has read or commented this year, THANK YOU! I hope I can create some more interesting content next year!
However your 2016 might have been been, I hope 2017 turns out to be a great year for you!
